This a special copy as it once belonged to Lt. Henry Baldwin, Battery M, 5th Artillery (Regular Army). He was cited on numerous occasions for his bravery, copies of some of the reports are with the book. He fought all through the Eastern Campaigns, may have been captured at Cedar Creek while wounded. He died 11/8/1864 after having his arm amputated. His signature and unit appears on the cover of the book.
