Springfield, IL: For the Author, 1885. First. Hard Bound. VG+. There appears to be two small four leaf clovers pressed on the title page.

Wallpaper sample VG+ also / none. Item #254

THIS IS A VERY RARE ACCOUNT!! THIS THE ONLY COPY I HAVE SEEN IN 25 YEARS.

THE AUTHOR SERVED IN COMPANY E, 20TH OHIO VOLUNTEERS.

Dornbusch I-OH-169 (20th Ohio Inf). Not in Nevins . Not in any other biblios.

Originally the book had a wallpaper sample tipped in at the rear of the book. This was a sample of the several wallpapers used in the publication of the expensive and rare Vicksburg newspaper printed immediately after the fall of the city. The sample with my book is missing, Tom Broadfoot states that this book was the source of much of the wallpaper used to counterfeit the Vicksburg July 2/4th newspaper.

I acquired an early reproduction of the esteemed newspaper and it is included with the purchase of the Oldroyd book. The reproduction is not dated, but likely is from the late 1800s or early 1900s. Supposedly the paper was copied and sold as souvenirs to raise money for the Old Soldier's Homes, UDC and SCV camps.

The paper has been folded and shows fold marks.

Photo 3 shows the text side of the item, photo four shows the wallpaper image on the back. The paper alone often commands $100 or more itself.

Price: $425.00
