A very unusual narrative as the author was a prisoner ( 6th Mich Cavalry) and he speaks on Commandant Wirz’s behalf. Dorn Mich-30, Krick 366: “Important prison narrative…” Nevins: I-199: “…vehement, detailed and sometimes convincing.” Page was first a prisoner at Belle Isle before being transferred to Andersonville. He provides a detailed account of life at the infamous prison in the first part. Part two of the book deals with Wirz.
