The author was a British Army officer who wrote other excellent narratives concerning the American Civil War. Sheppard says, "He must, of course, be considered first and foremost as a soldier...but he was also a splendid and admirable man." This bio takes him from birth to death with the meat of the narrative discussing his Civil War activities. One of the four or five must have Forrest biographies.
