Dyer served with the 1st Kentucky Cavalry (CSA) under Morgan and Wheeler at various times. Dyer seemed to "visit" most Federal prisons at one time or another, he was jailed at Camp Chase among others. He accompanied Davis on his flight after Lee’s surrender.
