One of the better auto/biographies of the Gray Ghost. He is given partial credit for Stuart's successful ride-around McClellan escapade and the overwhelming Confederate victory at Second Manassas. He quickly came to Stuart's aid when blame for the defeat at Gettysburg was heavily attributed to Stuart's late arrival. It is estimated he tied up 50,000 Union troops in the defense of Washington. He was truly a thorn in the side of the Union forces in Northern Virginia. Nevins II-78. Howes 854. Dornbusch II-1286.
