One might think from the title that this book would be neutral in tone, but not so. It has a definite Confederate bias (Sterling Price is the frontise portrait). A lot of information on the Missouri Home Guard which was Missouri's Confederate contribution. There is much on the obscure small engagements fought in Missouri and Arkansas. A wealth of information on this theater of war not found elsewhere. Any Missouri and Arkansas Confederate accounts are very rare. Nevins II-166.
