Item #497 Captain S. A. Swiggett.
Swiggett,Captain S.A

First. Hard Cover. Wet stain at top right of front board, Missing ffep. Otherwise VG. / None. Item #497

Double good as it is a rare 36th Iowa piece and also covers prison life at Camp Ford, Texas. Little on either. The 36th was a Trans-Mississippi unit that fought at Helena, Arkansas, in July 1863. They were later detailed to accompany General Steele on the ill fated Red River Campaign of 1864. The author was captured by Confederate cavalry while enroute from Camden, Arkansas, back to Little Rock. Much of the narrative covers his time at Camp Ford.

Not in Nevins. Coulter 440. Dornbusch I-IA-245.
