Mustered in 1862, the 21st saw action on the march to Vicksburg at Champion's Hill, Black River before assaulting the Vicksburg defenses (Lost 113 out of 280 engaged. They also were at Port Gibson. Unusual postings along the Mississippi in Southern Missouri, Louisiana and Texas until mustering out.
