Boyd Vincent was the brother of Strong Vincent whose brigade defended Little Round Top on July Second at Gettysburg. The 20th Maine under Colonel Joshua Chamberlain was one of the regiments under Vincent's command, the others were the 16th Michigan, 44th New York, and 83rd Pennsylvania. Not only did the 20th Maine suffer but all of Vincent's regiments did while fighting elements of Hood's and Law's brigades. Strong Vincent was killed during the engagement.

The author participated in this battle so he provides first person testimony. He gives much credit to General Warren for the victory there and leaves the reader believing that Colonel Vincent took it upon himself to fortify Little Round Top. The author states this narrative sheds new light on the battle due to new testimony from veterans and his own accounts.. It is very detailed and a valuable account for anyone interested in this action.
