This is the first reprint of the original which is an invisible 1897 piece worth maybe $2000 if found. Johnston served in Company D, 7th Va Inf, CSA commanded by Jubal Early, Richard Ewell and A.P. Hill among others. Johnston was only 16 years old when he enlisted but nonetheless earned the rank of sergeant major within two years service. He was twice wounded and twice made a POW. The 7th had 335 present under Kemper's command at Gettysburg where it suffered 40% casualties, most all during Pickett's Charge. There were only 20 paroled at Appomatox. Contains a roster of Company D.
