This is the report of the patent office for the period from the formation of the Confederate government in 1861 to the end of that year. There were 57 patents granted, fully a third war related. A list of the item, inventor, place of residence is provided.

Not fully developed, but mentioned, is the relationship of patent honoring between the Federal and Confederate governments. It is stated that Southerners owned over 3,000 U.S. patents.
