Nevins II-172: “Long recognized as a classic study but now under fire from the revisionists.” Who cares about the revisionists. They write history the way they want it to be and when they tell the lies over and over they then believe them so that is the way it was.

Dumond discusses the many early efforts at reconciliation prior to the Civil War, but concentrates on the two critical years of 1861 an 1862 when the War seemed inevitable.
