It is very detailed which begins with Davis' capture, incarceration at Fortress Monroe and all the legal maneuvers attempting to get him to trial for treason. His circumstances at Fortress Monroe are given in great detail. He was subsequently released under the blanket amnesty order of President Johnson

Blackford may have been better known for his military writings about units from and military activities in and around Lynchburg.
