A Constitutional View of the Late War Between the States:

Philadelphia: National Publishing, 1868. First Editions. Hard Bound. Two Volumes. Spines faded but lettering visible. Square and tight hinges. Minimal foxing, if any. Nice set / None. Item #588

TWO VOLUMES.

In Tall Cotton-175: “…a learned defense of what the Civil War proved indefensible…” SP. Nevins II-91: “…elaborate, legalistic argument to vindicate the South…” Howes-938: “Most elaborate and best argument for constitutional validity of the doctrine of states sovereignty and the right of secession.” (Howes rarely adds a narrative to its listings)!

Stephens was very sensitive to criticism and many historians believe he was more “Confederate” in his writings than when he was vice president. Another Confederate MUST!
