SIGNED AND INSCRIBED BY MARY DICKISON, AUTHOR. Inscription reads, "To Robert (?) Whitney with sincere affection of the author. You have asked with free (?) Christian kindness for me in my sad, childless widow'shood and God will bless you." What looks like the same hand and with the same pencil is found on the FFEP "4 years Adjutant General, 6 years Major General UCV's. Under the frontispiece is written in the same pencil, "Promoted (?) Colonel." ITC –42: “The best picture of the campaigns in Florida, by the wife of the commander of the Second Florida Cavalry." Howes-335. Nevins I-81 "...splendid pictures of almost unknown Florida campaigns. . Calls for 13 illustrations and all are present.
